Buying cannabis edibles in South Africa

Edibles are the easiest cannabis format to get wrong, and the reason is almost always dosing rather than product quality. Ignore the pack total for a moment. What matters is how much THC is in one piece, because that is what you will actually eat.

How to dose edibles properly

Edibles behave differently from smoking or vaping. They pass through your digestive system first, so the onset is slow and the effect lasts much longer.

• Onset is 30 to 90 minutes. Not five. The most common mistake is deciding it has not worked after 40 minutes and taking more.
• Effects last four to eight hours, sometimes longer at higher doses. Plan the evening accordingly and do not drive.
• Start low and wait. If you have never had an edible, start at 10mg, wait a full two hours, and only then decide whether to take more.
• Food matters. Taken with a fatty meal, effects tend to come on stronger; on an empty stomach they can arrive faster but less predictably.
• Tolerance to smoking does not transfer cleanly. Regular smokers are still routinely caught out by a 30mg gummy.
