Cannabis concentrates in South Africa: what the formats actually are

Concentrates confuse more buyers than any other category, largely because they are sold by texture rather than by anything useful. Shatter, budder, honeycomb and diamonds are not different strengths — they are different physical consistencies of broadly similar extract, and the consistency is a result of how the extract was purged and agitated after extraction. What that means in practice is that the choice between them is mostly about how you like to handle the product.

Three of our four gram-weight extracts are the same price. That is deliberate and worth saying plainly: you are choosing a texture you prefer to work with, not paying more for a stronger product. Diamonds in terp sauce cost more because the terpene fraction is preserved separately and recombined, which is a more involved process and gives noticeably more flavour.

Solventless, distillate and cured resin

The other axis worth understanding is what the extract was made from and how.

• Cured resin is extracted from cured whole flower, so it carries more of that plant’s own terpene profile. It tastes closer to the strain itself. Our Runtz cured resin disposable at R750 is the easiest way into this tier.
• Distillate is highly refined THC with terpenes blended back in afterwards. Cleaner and more consistent, but the flavour comes from what was added rather than from the original plant. Distillate carts sit in THC Vapes.

Extracts are not a beginner product

We would rather lose a sale than have someone’s first cannabis experience be a gram of shatter. Concentrates are several times the potency of flower, the effect arrives almost immediately, and there is no gentle ramp. If you have not used cannabis regularly, start with flower, pre-rolls or a low-dose edible instead.

If you are experienced but new to concentrates specifically: take a fraction of what looks like a sensible amount, wait, and reassess. A portion the size of a grain of rice is a real dose. Infused Moonstick pre-rolls at 45–50% THC are a gentler bridge if you want concentrate strength without the equipment.

Storing extracts

Concentrates are more temperature-sensitive than flower. Heat softens shatter into budder and makes everything harder to portion; cold makes budder brittle. Keep them sealed, out of direct sun, and away from a hot car — particularly in a Durban or Polokwane summer. Twenty minutes in the fridge before handling makes soft extract far easier to work with. They do not spoil, but terpenes degrade with heat and light, so a cool dark cupboard preserves the flavour you paid for.

Free nationwide shipping applies to orders over R2000. Below that, Pudo economy delivery is R82 and takes three to five working days, and overnight courier is R160. Same-day delivery is Gauteng only, charged at Uber Package rates and dispatched from our Sandton or Maboneng pickup points.
